Knocked Up is the latest movie from director Judd Apatow (40 Year Old Virgin) and actor Seth Rogan (40 Year Old Virgin). It also has Paul Rudd (40 Year Old Virgin) and Apatow’s real life wife Leslie Mann (40 Year Old Virgin). Casting was great for both movies, I just wish it was a little more consistent. Anyway, the film also stars Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy)…yeah baby! Rogan plays a loser who doesn’t work and has no ambition. Heigl plays a newly promoted E! Entertainment correspondent. After having a one night romp we find out that Heigl’s character is pregnant. The movie goes on to show how the two try and make it work for the sake of the baby.

This movie has a lot of laughs and overall is very funny. A lot of the humor is pretty crude (this movie is very Rated R). I don’t think this is for everybody and I also think if you have had a baby, or have been knocked up (you know who you are!) you will appreciate the humor a lot more. Ultimately the movie is a comedy but it’s also about how everything doesn’t always happen the way we want or planned but that doesn’t mean it can’t still work.

On a side note I want to point out that I believe we are witnessing a new era of comedy being led by Judd Apatow -- that being the Rated R comedy that is hysterical, but has a great message. The best thing about his movies is that yes, they are funny, but they are also good movies. I enjoy a lot of comedies because they make me laugh, but are they good? That is rare. I believe Apatow is setting a new standard in comedy and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with in the future.
