Many Wiccans, follow Germanic practices. As if there is not enough prejudice in the Universe a sect of the Germanic purists turn their backs on them for no other reason than the fact that they are Wiccans. Fortunately for us there are those who feel that you should always do what comes natural to you.

The one thing I would like to point out is, although I understand there is a New Age Movement, what they do not seem to under stand is they are following the Old Ways.  This renaissance of both Wicca and Ásatrú is not so surprising when you consider that many people are struggling to find themselves. Interestingly, they seem to have developed a need to look forward by reviewing history in the hopes to rewrite it to fit their needs. With the aid of the mail to order Family Crests Elaborate claims to ancient familial lineages have been discovered.

The Wiccan community has a deep respect and reverence for the earth. To the Wiccan, She is identified as Gaea, Mother Earth, We  believe that spirit lies in the earth and that the earth is to be respected. Proof of this can be found throughout Wiccan writings, and their works.

The Wiccan community also engages in environmental social activities which are linked to their religion. Wiccans may be involved in camping and hiking the activities that allows them to  be one with nature, and display  an interest in herbalism and alternative healing

In Wicca, the predominant culture of choice is that of the Celts, which reflects the British Isles origins of Wicca itself. Those who do not identify with the popular New Age culture often identify their religion with an ancient matriarchal period of the golden age.

The word "Wicca" derives from an Anglo-Saxon root meaning to "bend, or to shape," I will concede for argument sake that some  suggest it means "wise" or "wise one."  It is understandable for the practice of Wicca is to bend or shape cosmos with your magic. By all counts it is safe to say To be Wicca means to be wise and able to bend and shape the Universe to your will.

The predominant symbol for Wicca is the pentagram. a symbol of the five elements: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit, each bound within the circle of life, death, and rebirth.  To be Wicca is to live one's life in harmony with these elements and in union with the cycles of nature.  To the heart of the Wiccans concerns is the Goddess, She of Many Names, who is complemented by Her Consort  This has much to do with the magical concept of "names of power". The Wiccan is free to evoking such names of power there by identifying with the Universe in its entirety.
