The Leatherman's Code

When you make the commitment to Leather, you promise to respect yourself, your Leather and the Leather Community. This promise of respect is the foundation of the brotherhood of Leather Men.

My Personal Point Of View

By: S. Michael Holeman

I am a Leatherman, as well as a leather boy. My lifestyle and our community mean a lot to me. I enjoy being active in many different ways in the community and interacting with various members of the community, clubs and organizations. Both Daddy Jay and I have also been active in other cities before and after we met in January of 1989, South of Market. We both realize that there are many forms and variations of Leather and alternative lifestyles. I know where I am coming from and where my principles and standards are. Other people live by a different set of principles and standards. That is their choice and their right, but I do tend to be closer to people whose standards are close to mine. However, differences of opinion and personal feelings can make a friendship stronger. The terms Leatherfolk, Leathermen and Leather Tribe are not politically correct titles. They give definition of a group or organization of men and women who are of the same mind. A computer is a tool that I use to communicate with others throughout the world. The personal touch is what I prefer and use whenever I can. However, timely, positive, clear communication is a very important part of consideration and courtesy, regardless of the form of communication used. That is why I use the tools at hand. I do not say things to be politically correct, but I am aware of other peoples feeling and I would never say anything to belittle another persons point of view. I feel it is important to listen, and to take full responsibility for my own actions. We all have the Freedom of Speech. That means that we have the freedom to Not say some things that are better left unsaid.
