| I grew up in Searcy, Arkansas, a small town about fifty miles northeast of Little Rock. I was valedictorian of my high school class (1991) and went on to major in history and music at Harding University, a Christian school in Searcy. I graduated in 1995 and continued studies at Pepperdine University, where I graduated with an M.A. in history in August 1997. I then went to mainland China as an English teacher and missionary. I lived in Wuhan, one of the "Four Furnaces" on the Yangzi River, during the 1997-98 school year. In 2004, I completed a Ph.D. in Humanities at Florida State University; my dissertation dealt with Samuel Parker (1640-88), a controversial bishop in the Church of England. I am now an Assistant Professor of Humanities at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama. |

| I married Vickie Richardson of Texarkana, Texas, on 14 August 1999. Our first child, Jonathan Edward, was born on October 30th, 2002. The second, Frederick William, surprised us at home on December 7th, 2004. I have three siblings. Terri teaches third grade in Nashville's public school system and is married to Stevan Atkins. Jeff is a business professor at David Lipscomb University in Nashville; he has three children: Ali, Maddie, and J. C. Laura is married to Jesse Tyree, who deals with insurance in some way in Nashville. My parents still live in Searcy, where they both teach at Harding. Vickie also has three siblings. Laura is married to Steve Bennett, a middle school band director; they have four children: Joshua, Caleb, Daniel, and Miriam. Brian, a computer programmer, is married to Susan, an elementary music teacher; they have two sons: Andrew and Matthew. Catherine is married to James Rickett, also a computer programmer; they have three children: Emily, Alyssa, and Benjamin. All of them, as well as Vickie's parents, live in Texarkana, TX/AR. I have many great friends who have stayed close through the years, even though we are often scattered all over the country (or the world). You will see pictures of some of them on this site. |
