Section 2.1 The Molecular Basis of Life (pp. 40 - 49)

Review the answers for questions 1-4, 5, 7, 9

Question 2:Cells divide to create new cells, essentially halving their material. How do cells replenish the supply of materials they need for all the structures and functions of the cell? List 3 main ways cells may do this.

See questions 1-18 on page 61. Do you remember the human models of the cell membrane we constructed in class?

Question 3:What is the major difference between active and passive transport?
Question 4:What would happen to an animal cell if left too long in a hypertonic environment? in a hypotonic environment?
