Niteshift Recap (05/24/2001)

Instead of summarizing the life is like science fiction stories, I'm inserting direct links so you can read exactly what Mike does on air. Only faster and without trance music playing in the background.

5-24-2000- 4:15 a.m: Your hosts this week are Mike Sargent, Eugene and our beloved founder, Andrea.

Today's Theme: Favorites

-Astro calls in about this story.
....but gets cut off

-Jamaican national hero Sam Sharpe was executed May 23, 1932.

-Owen Hart was also killed on that day two years ago.

-Why Mike is clinging to the "create a fictional band name" idea  I 'll never know.  Andrea comes up with "Euphoric Recall" off the dome.

-Andrea kicks Eugene for saying "o" instead of "zero" when saying the Niteshift number. (212-209-2900, fyi)

Favorite Movies:
Andrea: E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial
Eugene: "Heaven Can Wait",  because it makes him laugh.
Mike: Fave funny movie: "Planes, Trains and Automobiles".

jason_andrews_2: My hands are getting tired from all this typing. I'll put them between these pillows to rest them.
Steve Martin: Those aren't pillows!!

-Mike plays tapes of the show in reverse while a caller gives his review of  "Angel Eyes". Shooting on
J-Lo's next movie begins when Puffy gets jealous.

-Caller Terrance worries that the humidity in Vieques will ruin Rev. Al's Dark and Lovely perm.

Life Is Like Science Fiction:

-Black Mold Strikes in Dry Places

-Andrea plays the intermission (track 8) during her LISF read.

.... And says the word "tits" a LOT.

-Doc Discipline calls in and says "J-Ho" a LOT.

- Andrea plays "Jimmy" from the 1996 album Ænima then gives a glowing review of the Tool show at Hammerstein.

-I call in and contribute ever so little. Someone decides to play a message about a save 'BAI rally which gets me hung up on. Eh.

-Some guy calls in and does a lame-ass Beavis & Butthead impression.

- Researcher Says Jet Lag Causes Brain Shrinkage

-Sisters Of Mercy. Because G.W. was the governor of a state executes 40 people a year. Which means he showed none?

- Scientists See Virus Parallels

- Study Suggests Black Tea Helps Prevent Cavities. I personally prefer the healthscout.com headline: Look, Ma! No Cavi-Teas!

-Mike bitches out a caller who makes a stupid joke about black folks and white teeth.

- Puzzling hyper-gravity proves weighty mystery.

- Plant Hormones Form Basis of New Anti-Cancer Drugs

-Dying Piece By Piece (The disturbing livestock story in its entirety)

The host discuss their favorite musicians at length

Mike: Jerry Goldsmith, Peter Gabriel
Eugene: The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Chicago

Andrea: Beatles, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Janis Joplin, Miles Davis and some band with a bald lead singer. I think she said the Smashing Pumpkins.

-Rage Against The Machine has joined forces with Chris Cornell.

-Judge Dismisses Ritalin Lawsuit Against Novaritis

-Andrea plays "Eulogy" and "Forty Six & 2" from Ænima.

-Bridget calls in to share her favorites: Kate Bush, Dead Can Dance (certified hot then dropped to lukewarm, now back up in the spot claming
never been gone). Echoes Andrea's sentiments about the Tool show. I have to say it was indeed a good concert. The other shows I've seen this year pale in comparison. Christina A./Destiny's Child accepted, of course.

-Eugene and Mike give mad props to King Crimson, who is touring this summer with Tool.

-Andrea urges the listening public to buy "Lateralus", with incredible results.

-Andrea rips Whitney Houston's live performance, calls TOOL the heroin of rock and roll and gives herself a really long title that I'm too tired to repeat.

-Andrea gets in a plug for her club and we are out.
