Diabetes and Me
In 1999, I discovered that I was a diabetic.  I had probably been diabetic for quite some time.

The Diabetes  had damaged my heart also.  I had 3 blocked arteries in really bad shape and the doctor would not even consider surgery or angioplasty.

My life changed forever!  I now have to check my blood sugar all the time and started out taking Glucotrol to control it.  I would spend 2 years trying to get it under control.  It is still not under control today.  I am now using insulin to try to control it.  It is down under 150 now, but I have to maintain a very strict diet or it wouldn't be.

Diet and excercise are very important.  I also do this.  I am on a 1400-1500 calorie a day diet.  I excercise regularly, lite aerobics and strength. I avoid white bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, etc. almost all starches.

Now, I know that you don't want to spend you life like this.  So, please make your health your #1 priority.  Take care of yourself, watch what you eat, excercise everyday if you can.  At least get a yearly checkup if you feel your health is really good.  It can change before you know it.

As I said before, my diabetes became uncontrollable for over 2 years,  it would range from 150 to almost 300 at times.  I did everything, diet, excercise, meditation.  One day when I realized that not only was my diabetes out of control, but, so was I.  I was very depressed and when I was prescribed medication for the depression, many of my medical problems became managable, including my diabetes.  Depression is one of the symptoms of Diabetes.  I realized that I felt out of control and helpless to this disease and all of the different things that was happening to my body.

I also changed my diet from a low fat diet, to a low carb and fat diet.  I haven't lost the 25 lbs, I gained after being diagnosed and put on medication, but I am struggling with it.

Neuropathy is also one of the results of this disease.  I have it my left arm from the elbow down to the little finger.  Sometimes it is almost unbearable.

Below you will find links that can give you much more information than I could ever put on this page, including symptoms of Diabetes.  Please make sure your doctor knows of you have any of the symptoms of Diabetes,  it is a killer disease!!!!!
