| It started out like any other day. I got up at 6am, got husband off to work and children off to school. I sat down at my computer and checked my email, it seemed like it would take forever. I decided to take a break about 8:30am. So I got up and made a cup of coffee and headed for the livingroom to watch some of the news. I was watching Katie Couric and Matt Lauer, I can't even remember what they were talking about before, but Katie started talking about a plane crashing into the World Trade Center. First report was it was a small commuter plane, and the area behind Katie and Matt was showing a picture of the fire. I was thinking to myself, this is horrible, the lost lives, how could something like this happen. Before my eyes on my tv I suddenly saw a huge plane appear flying toward the other tower, OH my God, it flew straight into it. I realized it was a commercial airliner with hundreds of people on board. Ok, I thought, what is happening? Is it the end of the World? Why are our own planes flying into the World Trade Center towers??? My mind was in turmoil as another plane flew into the Pentagon. We are under attack!!!!!!! But who? Who could do such a thing??? I knew there was going to be great loss of lives. I knew that President George Bush was here, in Florida, in fact, only 50 miles away at a school talkng with the children. I watched in paralyzed horror as the second Tower attacked, started falling to the ground. Oh God, I said to myself, please do something, all those people that must be in there, those that had jumped out of the buildings, the families outside looking, watching the same things that I was seeing. This is a nightmare, I will wake up! It can't be true, surely. But is was real and my life would never be the same. My country was under attack by ruthless, heartless, insane mad men and there was nothing I could do, except pray. And now a year later, the pain is just as hard to bear as it was on that morning. I am thinking that next year is going to be the same and the year after that and the year after that. I wonder if I will ever be able to get it out of my memories. Everytime I hear September 11, 2001, I know that I will remember!!! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
