NEWS & RUMORS
Ananova
March 18, 2004

Keira Knightley has been voted Hollywood's ultimate Girl Power star.  She came top in a list of new young female action stars chosen by a panel of movie experts for Film Review magazine.  According to Sky the panel believe the 19-year-old has got everything it takes to become "an enduring A-list leading lady".  Keira shot to fame in Bend It Like Beckham, in which she played a talented young footballer.  She has since starred opposite Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom in Pirates of the Caribbean and in Love Actually.

Second in the poll was American actress Scarlett Johansson, who won a Best Actress Bafta for her performance in Lost In Translation.  Third was Whale Rider star Keisha Castle-Hughes, who is just 14.  Three other British actresses made the list - Kate Beckinsale (7), Sophia Myles (8) and
Rachel Weisz (10).  South African Oscar winner Charlize Theron could only manage 17th place.

Weisz To Tend To 'The Constant Gardener'
February 13, 2004

Rachel Weisz
has landed the female lead opposite Ralph Fiennes in The Constant Gardener, an adaptation of the John le Carre novel, according to Variety.  Oscar-nominated helmer Fernando Meirelles (City of God) directs, with shooting to begin in May.

Weisz will play the feisty wife to Fiennes' complacent British diplomat. While he seems most interested in tending his garden in Nairobi, she uses her law degree to expose a scandal in which a drug company is testing a dangerous tuberculosis remedy on a group of poor Africans. When her battered body is discovered in the jungle, her husband is driven to discover her killer and uncover possible collusion between politicians and a pharmaceutical giant.

The role of Tessa Quayle had young actresses jumping, partly because the film marks the English-lingo debut of the director. Meirelles recently was quoted in Gotham papers lamenting that he had to choose among
Weisz, Kate Winslet and newcomer Eva Green, who just toplined Bernardo Bertolucci's The Dreamers.

Weisz is currently shooting Constantine opposite Keanu Reeves and the comedy Envy.

Josh Hartnett is signed up to star in director Petter Naess' Mozart and the Whale. Rachel Weisz is also negotiating to star, according to Variety.

The movie, which is scripted by Ron Bass and inspired by a 1995 article in the Los Angeles Times, is based on the story of a young couple who have Asperger's syndrome, a kind of autism.

Hartnett's character is a math savant who falls in love with a woman who is a music and art savant, played by
Weisz. Their talents are offset by an inability to relate to one another, which threatens to undermine their relationship.

Shooting for the project is expected to start on March 1st.
