These first came to my knowledge as I noticed them around Christchurch. I was immediately wary and suspicious. Why were they gold instead of the normal green? Who gave these bins or 'crates' out and for what reason? The investigation began into this fiasco ending in a conspiracy that goes to the top...to be updated at a further date

I recently sent an email to the CCC, it follows;

Hi, I'm doing a project over the summer holidays on recycling in Christchurch. I already have suffiecent info on the recycling process etc from your website. But I have a few questions about the gold recycling bins. How many of these were handed out? Will other gold or other colours be handed out again? How did the people who recieved the bins, out of 2400 nominated, got chosen, ie was there a specific criteria they were measured against?
