With the creation of the American Anti-Slavery society in December 1833 and with the help of many abolitionist leaders such as William Lloyd Garrison, creator of abolitionist paper the Liberator, David Walker, a black abolitionist who supported Garrison financially, Lewis Tappan, a very popular and influential abolitionist leader in New York, Elijah Lovejoy, a very prominent abolitionist editor, Harriet Tubman, who organized the Underground Railroad, and Frederick Douglas, writer of the North Star, an abolitionist newspaper, the Abolitionist Movement started to receive national notoriety. |
