Shimizu Valentine`s Weekend, 11th- 13th Feb, 2000
Shimizu, a small town situated in the hills and mountains of North Wakayama Prefecture, not too far from Koyo-san. This is the annual site for the Valentine`s Weekend, a time for JETs to come together and use Valentine`s Day as yet another excuse to get pissed!
The morning after, the murderer discovered, and everybody with hangovers! What better time for a local Japanese child to come around to look at all the foreigners!
The first night of the weekend, and it`s time for a murder mystery game! sad as it sounds, this was actually a lot of fun!
After a lovely onsen, we walk back to the wooden cabins we stayed in. You can`t get much more out in the sticks than this! Very pretty scenery though!
Hangovers cured (hopefully), it`s time to learn how to make washi, a Japanese type of paper used in calligraphy! Swish the tray about a bit and voila! Instant gunk that when dry becomes paper!
On our way back to civilisation we discover this suspension bridge! Very bouncy!
The second and final night, and it`s Mexican time! Several of us  were put on tortilla making duty!
A view of the Arida River, which runs through much of North Wakayama. By the time it gets down to Kibi it`s an insignificant stream compared to this!
