Welcome to Kibi Town!!
This is Kibi, the place I called home for three years up until July of last year when my time on JET finally ended. It`s a quiet little town, and is - I think -  fairly typical of rural towns all over Japan.
One of the two main roads leading in and out of Kibi. On the left is Delicious Hirooka, the local supermarket that never quite lived up to its name!
A view of Kibi from my apartment. In the foreground you can see a field of mikan (mandarin orange) trees, the principal industry in the area.
Ah, Kibi Dome (left), a multi-purpose venue, and Kibi Town Hall, home of my wonderful employers the Board of Education! As seems to be the custom among towns like this, these buildings were designed by a locally famous architect.
Fujinami Shrine, the local shrine for one of the main districts of Kibi.
Kibi Junior High School, my place of work four days a week. 500 students from 12 to 15 years old, 40 odd teachers and a lovely carp pond in between the two main buildings!
A portable shrine carried by local men throughout the Fujinami area. This is a traditional part of the local Fujinami Festival, held every year in the Spring time.
Another part of the festival is this performance, showing two warriors doing battle with and finally subduing a dragon. The performers walk along behind the portable shrine and perform their act in the streets for all the people to see!
Me and Melissa, another of the local JETs, along with all the performers from the dragon play.
