| Newsletter for November 2005 Work Hospital - Well as most of you are aware I have started work at the hospital about 10 mins walk from my place in downtown Jerusalem. I am doing at the moment, 3 shifts a week as a volunteer in the Intensive Care Department. It is quite a busy little department. There is capcity for 5 ventilated patients but only 2 nurses. This is quite a workload, when you consider that in UK and in Australia the ratio is 1 to 1, with a floating staff member and a team leader. I make up a 3rd when I am there and although not doing FULL duties, have been told that it is a tremendous help. I am able to do most...just not the medications, until I am recognised as a registered nurse. To get this recognition, I have been told by the Ministry of Health at my meeting with them, that I first need a "tourist with permission to work" visa, and then to sit the board exam.........at the moment only available in Hebrew. The fact that I am around Hebrew at work now, all the time is great, and will help no end. Would love to do a course 2 nights a week now in Hebrew, but will have to see how that works out practically and financially when I get back. One thing that has also been a blessing is that I have found 2 other believers in my department. I am sure there are probably more in hospital. It is nice not to be alone. It is also interesting to work along secular Jews, Orthodox Jews, Muslims and Christian Arabs in the department and to see how they interact. The Vet Clinic - Still trying to get the stores at the clinic sorted out before I leave. Hoping to spend a whole day this next Thursday and just finish it off. Unfortunately one of my friends has left the clinic now. Dudu (David) and it will be very different without him. Helick still does the occassional operation for them and will need to do more of the major stuff now as he had been hoping to hand most of the big stuff over to Dudu, leaving him free for his three other jobs (or is it 4 ? ...... yes 4) Dafna, on of the vet assistants has gone to Czech Rep (spelling may be off) to study to be a vet. We are keeping in touch with messenger on the internet. Certainly miss her there. I have been struck at the impact it seems to have on the Israeli's that someone would not only come and volunteer, but that you would work so hard at doing your best in the job. I am continually asked, both at the hospital and at the vet clinic about it and told that it really boggles their mind. It has often been asked why I don't go for a paid job. Well.....I could try. The visa is a difficult thing to get, that is one thing (although no problem for the Lord),the other is that is has such a witness to the Israeli's and they really do notice and appreciate a job well done. In the Home - Thank you for you prayers everyone. Yes there is another girl, making it two now that will be here while I am gone in the apartment who will share the responsibility of the animals, but also it will free me of responsibility of the rent while I am gone also. Sarah is moving in when I am gone, and Jackie is already here. The animals are all healthy at present, but the fridge is still not sorted out at all. Don't want to leave with them having no fridge here. Ahuva, my neighbour upstairs, sister is very sick. I think she has gone to look after her because she came looking for me the other day when I was out, and the shutters have been down ever since. She apparantly is dying of cancer. I would love the chance to be there for her and comfort her. We have become closer over the last 12 months thanks to the wild cats actually. My love for animals has so touched her (because she loves them herself) that she tells me often how much she loves me as we have both often see the poor situation of many of the street cats here. So she often turns to me at difficult times now. Trip to Rishon - Had a wonderful time on my trip to Rishon near Tel Aviv last Wednesday. Spent some time with Effie in the morning while he was doing his work which included an autopsy on a bird Will work there for the day the next time I go, but just enjoyed sharing and talking over coffee about our lives. He is so open.He has had wonderful connection with quite a few believers, one being a special man he met in Australia that became like a father to him. He took him in and looked after him for 6 months while he was over there. This man apparantly had a real love for Israel and the Jewish people and touch him. He then dropped me off at the clinic in Rishon to spend some time with Sheli. He has a position at the private clinic that was Gaby's, the vet from the Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem, that was killed in the car accident. I found out too that it was supposed to be Effie that was in the car that day, but Gaby went in his place. Effie and Sheli were both really effected by Gaby's death.Unfortunately Limor was not available to meet last Wednesday but she wants me to come another day. Don't know if I will make it before I leave but we will see. Unfortunately that means no picture yet :( Trip Home I can not believe how quickly the trip home is coming up. I am looking forward to spending a few days with Marta, in London, on the way through. I aways look forward to spending time with her. I leave here on the 25th and then from London to Australia on the 28th, landing in Adelaide the day before mums birthday. Will need to think of things for winter in London and for summer in Australia......so much for travelling light. Prayer points 1. Please lift each of these precious people up before the Lord. and pray for the Israeli's amongst them to meet and recognise thier Messiah, and thank the Lord for the provision of the friends that are making this trip possible 2. Please pray for continued opportunities to share at work and witness there 3. Still deciding where I should actually work while I am way UK or OZ. 4. Thank the Lord for His provision financially .... He is faithful 5. For the situation on the ground here. There has been threatenings of kidnappings, stabbings and molocoff cocktails.(excuse the spelling) It appears that there could be an new approach as the old one has been Bye for now .....lots of love form here in Jerusalem .....
