The Obvious "Q". Who? Why?
Q: But really, why did you put up this site??? A: Al Jarreau is a star. He even has a star on Hollywood Blvd. Given that, he could limit interviews and appearances to mainstream publications and major TV and Radio shows. Instead over the last few years he has been gracious enough to do a lot of interviews with many independent websites and freelance writers. If he is going to be wonderful enough to do them fans should be able to find them, which is why this site is all about links. Its here to help you find stuff. CDs, interviews, concert info, etc.
Internet Radio: This is where the music is!
If you listen to the radio on a regular basis you've probably noticed that playlists have become shorter and more reptitious and there is very little new music being played in any format. Smooth Jazz stations are even phasing out instrumental Smooth Jazz and playing more pop oldies. If you're a boomer and grew up thinking that radio was the place to find and hear music it's time to take a hint from your kids and get one foot into the future. The best place to hear music is on internet radio. The internet stations are also the ones that are playing Al's music, especially the new songs. Support the people who are playing the music you love and check out these sites. Many of them are done by former smooth jazz/contemporary jazz radio people: www.jazztraxstudio.com CJazz/SJazz radio pioneer Art Good, who probably has the most extensive music library out there offers his "Jazztrax" show and his 24 hour stream on his website www.jazztrax.com. This is the place to hear new music and deep CD cuts www.smoothjazz.com Another smooth jazz radio pioneer, Sandy Shore, does this one. Excellent music mix including a lot of independent artists. With the demise of the Gavin Report this site also took up the slack and began doing a chart. Check out the articles, charts and extras! www.netradio.com Offers both traditional and smooth jazz channels. Rob Moore is another smooth jazz radio veteran who moved to the web, check out his excellent comments on the state of radio as a music medium for jazz and smooth jazz. There is a small monthly charge for these streams but isn't it worth it. Support those who give you what you want! www.live365.com Lots of excellent jazz and smooth jazz stations that all approach it differently. You have to sign up but you won't be spammed. This is the smooth/contemporary jazz station list, search Jazz for the traditional stations and spend some time. My station is on this server. (Gratuitious Self Promotion!): Sunlight Jazz - All smooth jazz, no pop vocals or covers and new music goes up fast!
