Legacy Project

This semester when I arrived at Katy I spoke with my cooperating teachers about what would be a good legacy project for me to leave with the school, and we decided that I would fix different parts of the greenhouse irrigation system.   We came to the conclusion that it would be best to incorporate my home improvement class in on the project so that everyone could be involved.

I learned so much throughout this entire project.  Since this was my first time doing a project like this I became a regular at the Home Depot store.  Our initial goal was to bring each nozzle from the raised irrigation pipe system from being in the center of each table to be centered in between the tables.  This allowed the water to spray and focus on the sides of each table as opposed to running off and not hitting any of the plants on the table at all.  We lowered each nozzle by adding an extension.  The left side of the greenhouse had one extension added while the left side had three extensions added.  The right side, with the lower extensions, was going to be used to water seedlings.  What we ended up doing was cutting the pipe on one end and shifted the entire pipe down the greenhouse until each nozzle was in between each table.   Once we cut the PVC pipe we had to add couplings to connect the rest of the pipe together.  This was done to both sides of the greenhouse.

Before we worked in the greenhouse I had my Home Improvement students work on a plan of what should be done before we started working.  They thought this worked well because they were able to pre-plan what they needed to do in the greenhouse.  The entire project worked out well and the students seemed to enjoy working in the greenhouse as well as learn a little bit about greenhouse irrigation systems.
