Positive and proactive behavior strategies:

 

• Praise appropriate behavior; praise should be given as soon as the good behavior is done, it should not be given without reason, praise should be sincere and developmentally appropriate
• Social approval such as thumps up, pat on the back or high five
• Modeling the desired behavior
• Ignore inappropriate behavior
• Avoid embarrassing students
• Use humor
• Remove items that could be distractions
• Help students when they need assistance to prevent behavior problems
• Use proximity to control behavior
• Prevent negative attitudes
• Appeal to student values
• Help students develop self management
• Use clear communication
• set high expectations for students
• make sure the students know the consequences/rewards for behavior
