Why did you want to become an administrator?

I became an administrator because my administrators I had as a teacher encouraged me to take that direction.  I really resisted because I loved the classroom and what I did.  As I took my course work in leadership I felt it was the next step in my professional career.  I love working with students, teachers, and parents to help work out problems and watching students succeed.  I guess my biggest push was I wanted to help teachers and try to make their life easier and not so hard.

What is the hardest thing about being an administrator?

The hardest part about becoming an administrator is the isolation.  It is a lonely job.  I miss the camaraderie.  It is very important that you get along with your principal or it would be a miserable job. I also miss the classroom.  I see what other teachers are doing and I want to take it and try it.  I miss that bond with students.  I really try to do things in the classroom and interact with the students daily so I can get my kid fix!  The long hours are hard too!

What is the best part about being an administrator?

The best part for me is seeing the big pictures and being a part of it.  A school is a fine oiled machine and it takes a lot to make it successful.  I feel I play a bigger role in this now.  I love the relationship part of it.  I enjoy working with parents and helping teachers achieve something they are working towards.  I love it when I have an unhappy parent and we can turn it around where they leave happy.  Teachers are amazing people, and I get to observe and learn from some of the greatest people every day and on my best days I can help them help the students.
