Basically Crook agrees with Tyler. They both agree that what is being
taught should be relevant to the life of a student. The student should be able
to take the information learned and apply it to situations in life. They both
agree that students should not just spit back mindless facts to show they have
learned something. Students should get feedback as soon as possible to show
whether they understood the objective the teacher is trying to accomplish;
afterward of course, the teacher/students should be able to realize whether
they have met the goal of learning and applying it to life situations. Both
authors also agree that teaching techniques should relate to the learning style
of the students. Crook and Tyler both agree that students will learn better if
they can experience what the goal is. Both also agree that evaluation of
student work should be done in a variety of ways – not all multiple choice
tests but varying methods that suits the style of the learner. Although Crooks
is from a different generation, he basically mirrors the ideas and ideals of Tyler.
