Guidelines that would assist teachers in developing effective classroom evaluation.

 

  1. Use adjunct questions (in short answer format) to prepare for the test
  2. Use different modes of assessment such as observation, checklist, projects, work samples
  3. Have students take a test on a topic after studying it
  4. Use oral questions in class
  5. Provide feedback on assessments
  6. Use summative and formative assessments
  7. Use cooperative learning structures
  8. Teach students test taking strategies
  9. Provide choices for student learning
  10. Present information in a meaningful way
  11. Set high standards but not so high they are unattainable
  12.  Determine how standards are set: norm referenced, criterion referenced or based on effort and improvement
  13. Test often
  14. Provide deep approaches to learning rather that surface approaches to learning
  15. Use cumulative assessments
  16. Use higher level questions rather than lower level questions
