| Biography 1-18-01: While riding in a Honda Civic in Apex, North Carolina and listening to The Red Hot Chili Peppers.... Ben, Jared, and Nick decide to start a famous rock band so that they can be on the radio, meet Carson Daly, and play in the Apex High School Talent Show. Nick suggests that Eric sings for the band. Ben suggests they call the band Jared. 1-19-01: Ben, Jared, Nick and Eric get together for the first rehearsal of Jared. They work on some music Nick wrote. They realize they are in a rush because the talent show try-outs are only three days away. 1-20-01: Eric composes the vocal part of "Here I Am"(what later becomes "Quiet Years"). 1-21-01: Eric plays "Here I Am" for Ben and Nick. The three of them with acoustic guitars record the song without drums on Eric's mom's tape recorder. They immediately run all over town, playing it for everyone they come in contact with. 1-22-01: The band takes the tape to the talent show auditions. The choir director was quoted as having said, "It is such a precious breath of fresh air!". 1-25-01 and 1-26-01: Jared is the opening act at the Apex High School Talent Show. The crowd goes crazy. The band has their one week anniversary. February-April 01: The guys write some more songs including: Runaway(at the time it was also called Change In The Case), Henry Miller and Rust. 4-20-01: Jared packs the Bushiban coffee shop full of people who didn't drink coffee. August 01: Nick moves to Greenville, NC to attend ECU. Taylor moves to Charlotte, NC to attend UNCC. Ben and Jared stay near home, going to NCSU and WTCC respectively. Eric becomes extraordinarily popular at Apex HIgh School. 5-1-01: Jared plays the song "Running Thin" at the Mars Music store in Raleigh for a Battle Of The Bands competition. The set included: Here I Am, Runaway, Henry Miller, Rust, Running Thin, A Night To Remember, The Piano Song. They are up against Zen Pimps, Mourning Wood, Silver Series, and Secret Regent. Jared wins free recording time, t-shirts, $500 and the opening slot at Barefoot On The Mall. They suffer through some technical guitar difficulties, but end up playing: Quiet Years, Megan Song(formerly Amanda Song), Piano Song, Henry Miller, and A Night To Remember. 4-13-01: Eric writes a new song that the rest of the band thinks is a hit! 4-25-01: Jared opens for LuckyTown, Infectious Organisms, and Jump, Little Children at Barefoot On The Mall. Thousands of people witness an incredible set: Quiet Years, Running Thin, Megan's Song, Rebellion Against Rebellion(formerly The Piano Song), She's Going Out Tonight, the untitled new song, Henry Miller and A Night To Remember. Later that day, Tim from WZMB 91.3 in Greenville helps Jared, in their first ever radio interview, name "Basement Radio". Eric plays A Night To Remember and Basement Radio on air. |
