Located in the South-West corner of Montana, McCartney Mountain provides fantastic exposures of sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks.  Sedimentary strata consist of Cretaceous and Tertiary deposits which have been altered by a variety of geologic events.  A number of anticline and syncline pairs are exposed in addition to numerous structures.  McCartney Mountain can be found in Madison County on the Big Hole River about 15 miles North of Dillon, Montana.
