Just west of Logan Pass, which marks the Continental Divide, lies Birdwoman Falls. North Americas Crowned Jewel, Glacier National Park, exhibits colossal glacially scoured amphitheaters. The sedimentary rocks, which compose the vast majority of the landscape, were uplifted and subsequently carved by glacial activity. The most recent ice age to influence the region was between 12,000 to 15,000 years ago. The strata which comprises Glacier was deposited in an enormous basin in the Precambrian. Igneous intrusions, exhibiting cross cutting relationships, can be seen between layers of strata in several locations in the park. |
