My dad bought this truck in 88', its an 83 f-150 4x4 with a 302 V8. He drove the truck for a while and it had a hard life. He then retired it to a "farm truck only" so he could beat it around the field and not worry about hurting his other truck. It had set in our field for a long time without a clutch. Last summer my uncle donated me a 2 wheel drive f100 with a blown 300 inline 6 and a bent frame. The cab and hood and lots of other parts were good on the f-100, and dad gave me his old 83, so I decided that i would restore it. The body was in horrible shape. I first took the whole front end off and then started to the cab, then to the bed. In 2 weeks I had the whole truck down to a bare frame. I then pressure washed and sanded down the frame in order to paint it. When i got the frame done i put new shocks on it and a new throw out bearing and clutch fork in the transmission. Then i moved onto the engine, i bought some chrome 302 logo valve covers which are cool, and painted the heads, intake, carb, and everything else that u would see under the hood. then i started building it. It just so happened that the cab i had donated to me was a 2 wheel drive auto, and i was putting it on a 4wd 4 speed frame.... so i got out my grinder and cut a hole in the bottom of the cab where the shifters came through. everything actually fit there good and worked out fine, the worst trouble was getting my clutch assembley in under the dash. after that i bought two brand new fenders, and put my whole front end together. Then i moved onto looking for a bed. I found a bed on ebay in owensboro that was in great shaper and i ended up using it. well after i got that done i put a set of 33/12.50/15 inch tires on it and they fit quit good with the 3 inch body lift i put in it :) After that i spent weeks tuning the truck up just right and getting it running good. After that the truck sat for a while untill i could snatch up some money to paint it. I got plenty of money for x mas and thats where my money went. Me and my uncle did all the body work and painting ourslelfs (he painted and showed me how to sand lol). He done a great job painting it! I really wish I had pictures of this truck coming together its came a long way but still has a long way to go! |
