Powered Flight Academy in Oshkosh, WI
Written by: Jared Hageman
15 Cadets, 7 instructors, and 9 Cessna 172s gathered for the
National Powered Flight Academy in Oshkosh, WI on June 20.
On June 29, all 15 Cadets graduated, 12 of them with solo
wings, the other three earned pre-solo wings. All Cadets got
approximately 10 hours of front seat flying, and even more in
the back. The schedule of the week was pretty full, starting
with a flight right after breakfast, ground school after lunch,
and another flight after dinner. That schedule changed some
days due to weather. "Best experience of my life,"said Cadet
Theo "DJ" Moran, "Overall, National Flight Academy was one
of the most challenging and rewarding things I have ever
participated in as a Cadet. I made friends and memories that
will last my entire life, and I learned skills I hopefully will never
forget." Cadet Moran was one of the 13 Cadets that were able
to Solo. Getting the wings is one of the goals that most Cadets were working towards. "No worries," Cadet Moran said when asked about flying by himself, "like nothing I have ever done before." "Where else can you go 130 MPH and not get pulled over," asked Cadet Samuel "Bean" Gosz. After the Flight Academy, most Cadets still need about 30 hours to get their Private Pilot's Licence, a goal most hope to achieve someday.
Cuddles wanted to go along too, but would have created to much drag, and also would have risked losing him due to strong wind.
