The story of the
Steinbach's old alsatian house

1618-1648:the Steinbach's house was built in the small village of Wahlbach, in Sundgau, southern part of Alsace. Since those days, it was always owned by the members of Steinbach family. In the 80's, the house was disassembled.
In 1997, the association Garden of Roots ( Jardin des Racines) bought the oak limbers and shipped them oversea with the help of Danzas Martime, following the same route as the one taken 150 years ago by the alsatian settlers who lefted along with Henri Castro, a colonist. Allong the River Rhin, straight to Nederlands and then by ship to the port of Galveston (Texas).
The association Garden of Roots ( Jardin des Racines ) offered this house to the City of Castroville, Medina County, near San Antonio (Texas), "the little Alsace of Texas" .150 years later, their descendants still speak the alsatian dialect. And students from Landscaping school of Rouffach rebuilted the old alsatian house near the River Medina, on highway 90, to Del Rio.
