| The Garden of Roots, located in Castroville Regional Park, was started in 1997 when a team of students under the direction of Professeur Paul Dulin arrived in February to begin the garden. The perimeter was laid out in the shape of a map of Alsace with plants and shrubs, and river rocks defined the route of the Rhine river. Trees were planted for villages who helped fund the project. Xeroscape plants were chosen to withstand the Texas summers and the invasion of whitetail deer from nearby hills. At present the garden is being maintained by Castroville's park maintenance department. |
