The Smoke

When the curl of blue envelopes me...
Whenever the lamp is low,
When the moon hangs red and full,
When my heart beat is all of time;
I let it fill my soul.
When all sound is the sound of breath,
Whenever the smoke releases my will,
When I am delivered in it's whisper;
I surrender to it's temporal.
When there is nothing left,
When there is all I will ever need,
When my heart would burst from me,
It's sweet ache brings me Peace.

My Cigar

Your velvet skin beckons me
From a nestled bed of companions.
Like a halo, your adornment
Speaks of your refined construction.
Your tended environs protected,
The sublime enjoyment of your lustre,
Gluttony of the senses.

Of fire, you embrace it's kiss,
The smouldering burn, my desire.
The curling smoke, my senses wrap,
Inhale the flame, I am warm,
And I take all I can get.
Evoke the tastes of faint reminisce,
And bestow the release of time.

Truer than words of flattery,
Sweeter than grocer's candy.
Warm, in place of absent lover,
And sponge, to erase the harm.
My cigar shares true intimacy,
Gives only, taking nothing from me.

Winter Cigar

Snowflakes gently falling,
Keeping time with blue smoke
floating upwards in soft curls.
Their dance in the white lights
rimming the window,
a kaleidoscope.

Memories, like shadows, rise and fall
around me in the flickering firelight.
Drawing my knees up under my throw,
I rock back, drawing on my cigar,
feeling its comforting warmth,
a Fuente Gran Reserva.

The heart, holds the soundtrack of our lives,
all the music we play, the resonation.
Our senses connecting us to our past,
the actualization of our present,
our expression.

The strains of Silent Night, melting
into the room, joins me.
The tingle of the cigar wrap, delighting,
Like fingertips tinged with ginger from
Christmas cookies.

The fire crackles, laughing like a child's
Unstoppable glee. I smile along.
The quiet of the night holds me,
filled with waitings and ruminations.
The Winter Solstice, season of celebrations
and Family.

A time not of endings, but rebirth.
The Season of Peace.
