| CARMELITE MISSION |
OUR VISION As a Commissariat of the Order of the Brothers and Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the Philippines, we want to become a Filipino Carmelite Community. FILIPINO - rooted in the positive values of the family and the treasures of life and history of our people, particularly of the poor and oppressed. CARMELITE - nourished by the fraternal, prophetic and contemplative tradition of Carmel, handed down to us as a gift and charism of our people today. COMMUNITY - called to be a living image of God's reign, though in brokenness, in brotherhood and sisterhood, as religious and lay, amidst the people. Our Carmel Vocation is: - To see and contemplate the world and life through the eyes of the poor, through the eyes of God; - To assume our own poverty and eliminate from our way of thinking all that smacks of the powerful; - To recognize all the many things which we thought were fidelity to God, to the Gospel and to the tradition of the Order, but in reality were nothing more than fidelity to ourselves and to our interests; - To get a taste, even now, of the love of God which is "above all things" (From Institution of the First Monks) OUR MISSION To live Prophetic and Contemplative Brotherhood and Sisterhood challenged by the lives of Mary and Elijah: unmasking idols, denouncing injustices, promoting life and serving the people. To offer services, basically, to the poor and marginalized in fellowship with all the partners of our parish apostolate, Basic Christian Communities and sectoral programs. (cf VMS 1991) To create venues to make our Carmel tradition and charism a source of life within the Filipino struggle. (cf VMS 1991) OUR GOALS In accordance with our Vision and Mission, we define our Goals as follows: 1. To form capable and mature, prayerful and discerning Carmelites committed to living out Carmelite Tradition and Charism in the Philippine context towards societal transformation. 2. To build strong local communities enlivened by Carmelite Tradition and Charism following the footsteps of Jesus Christ in ever greater service to the basic sectors. 3. To create in our Apostolates centers of care and dialogue so as to attain relevant and meaninful pastoral approaches and ministries. 4. To develop further competency in Governance with a decisive and accountable leadership, and a membership that safeguards the principles of collegiality and subsidiarity towards a self-reliant Filipino Carmel. 5. To offer our experiences as Filipino Carmel to the International Order as our contribution to the worldwide prophetic stance for the poor and the marginalized. 6. To engage in a dialogue of faith and life with neighboring Asian religions and cultures in order to enrich our Carmel spirituality and mysticism and to strengthen our care for the integrity of creation. 7. To be transparent in our material resources with the Order and the people we serve, taking into consideration, that we are accountable to them as we profess to them our Poverty. OUR STRATEGIES To realize our Vision, Mission and Goals, we see that our main strategy is Center Building manifested in: - rootedness in Carmelite Formation - solidarity with the Poor - commitment for justice, peace and integrity of creation - building-up our competence - building-up a fraternal and contemplative community - universal brotherhood and sisterhood - dialogical Spirituality rooted in the Asian and Filipino context - media and communication |
