Tehran, May 26, IRNA -- A scientific and educational agreement was signed here on Monday between the Architecture and Urban Development Faculties of Shahid Beheshti University and Vienna Technical and Art University. The Austrian Cultural Attache in Tehran Christine Felner and a delegation of prominent professors from Vienna Technical and Art University visited Shahid Beheshti University and its Architecture Faculty and signed the agreement.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Chancellor of Shahid Beheshti University Architecture Faculty Ali Ghaffari told IRNA that cooperation between the two universities, which has been underway since 2001, has been successful. "The agreement calls for exchange of students as well as know-how in the architectural field," he added.
Turning to the favorable level of the mutual cultural ties between the two states, the chancellor said that in addition to the Austrian university, Shahid Beheshti University currently has scientific and educational contact with other foreign universities as well.
He referred to the Chinese Shanghai University, University of Tajikistan and the Science Academy of Tajikistan Republic as being among the foreign universities which are currently on mutual exchange program with Shahid Beheshti University.
"According to an agreement signed between Shahid Beheshti and Shanghai universities, annually a professor of Persian language from the Iranian university and one of Chinese language instructor from the Chinese university are exchanged to teach Persian and Chinese languages respectively," he added.
He pointed out that the establishment of Iranology department in Shanghai University and China Studies Department in Shahid Beheshti University are also among the achievements of the agreement. "Shahid Beheshti University signed another agreement on scientific and educational cooperation with Tajikistan's Al-e Saman Foundation University and the Science Academy of Tajikistan Republic in 1991," he noted.
Ghaffari added that currently talks are underway between officials of Shahid Beheshti University and the British London Islamic College, the Canadian Toronto University, the Dutch Amsterdam University as well as Goethe and Kassel Institutes to reach scientific, educational and research agreements.
