J-League Five-a-Side Cup

Competition Format

The J-League Five-a-Side Cup is a team competition in which Teams of 5 sides face off against one another. The 50 teams in the J-League group have been sorted into 5 seeding categories (1-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50) and each team has one member from each seeding category.

When two Teams play one another, each seed will face its counterpart--i.e. first seed v first seed, second seed v second seed, etc. Whichever player has the higher score earns a point for the team, and whichever Team has the highest combined score of the five players also earns a point. Thus, each week there are six points up for grabs. The standings will be based on points earned, and at the end of a nine week "season," the top six Teams will advance to the playoffs. The top two sides earn a bye to the second round, while the 3rd placed Team meets the 6th placed Team and the 4th plays the 5th (and 1st plays winner of 4 v 5, 2nd v winner of 3 v 6). The playoffs will be decided over two legs. The competition begins with results from Yahoo Week 8.
