UPN28/38’s Wrestler of the Week

(week ending 07/17/04)

EDGE

Accomplishment:

At Vengeance, one Superstar did what many present and future legends could not, that is, he beat Evolution member Randy Orton for the Intercontinental title.   This match displayed the athleticism of both Superstars.  A quick exchange at the end of the match leads to the challenger escaping a couple of RKOs, to finish off the Legend Killer with a vicious spear.  Ladies and gentlemen, your new IC champ, and UPN 28/38’s Wrestler of the Week… Edge.

Tidbits:

At the age of 16 Edge knew what he wanted to do in life while he watched Hulk Hogan battle the Ultimate Warrior at the SkyDome during Wrestlemania VI. He wanted to be there, in that very ring, listening to the roar of the crowd and putting them one the edge of there seats.  Edge began his wrestling career in the Canadian indy scene as Sexton Hardcastle.  There he formed a successful tag team known as The Suicide Blondes with Christian Cage (now better known as Christian).  WWE scouts saw his talent and signed him on.  Edge's character has changed since over time in WWE.  He began as an enigma in the stands, became a member of the vampire clique, the Brood, but found the most success as a tag team with his "brother" Christian.  Together they amassed 7 tag team titles and fought classic battles with the Dudleys and the Hardy Boyz, including the legendary TLC matches.  After a bitter split with his brother, Edge made strides as a single's competitor.  Edge unified the WCW US and WWE IC titles for a brief period of time.  He also managed to win the WWE Tag Team Titles once more, this time with Hulk Hogan.  Edge was gearing up for a WWE title shot before a neck injury put him out for a year.  Upon returning he quickly won the World Tag Team Titles with Chris Benoit and is the newly crowned WWE IC champion.  Is a World Title reign in his near future?  Only time will tell…
