UPN28/38’s Wrestler of the Week

(week ending 07/12/04)

Paul London and Billy Kidman

Accomplishment:

After a non-title victory last week on Velocity, this past week on Smackdown!,  the Cinderella team of Paul London and Billy Kidman rallied from near defeat and bested 18-time tag team champions, The Dudley Boyz, for the WWE Tag Team Championship.   London and Kidman stole one from the Dudley Boyz’s playbook as London hit the WASSUP! headbutt.   London followed it up by a crescent kick to Bubba-Ray which lead to an amazing Shooting Star Press by Kidman and a definitive 1-2-3 to crown the new champs.

Comments:

Paul London has made his mark on wrestling’s independent scene long before arriving in WWE.  His work in ROH and TNA has often stolen the show and helped open the door to WWE.  This under-used talent was first seen tagging with fellow cruiserweight Spanky or in single matches with much larger opponents, both situations usually resulting in decisive defeats.

Upon debuting in WWE, Billy Kidman found success in the Cruiserweight ranks, attaining the championship on several occasions.  Over the past few months, his success has been limited and his talent has been relegated to dark matches or Velocity.

London and Kidman began tagging a few months ago, displaying impressive ring work, but earning a less-than-impressive win-loss record.  A stunning, but solid, victory over the Dudleys this past Thursday may have been the pivotal moment in the duo’s career.  Time will tell if this victory was a fluke, or a sign of things to come.  Either way, London and Kidman have earned themselves the right to be called the inaugural UPN28 Wrestler(s) of the Week.
