This is J.P. Brewski here once again with all the news that's worth printing and then some...

What a week it has been for professional wrestling.  Possibly for the first time in the history of the sports-entertainment of kings has a wrestler from one promotion gone to another promotion and captures its world title from a wrestler who belongs to yet another promotion.  Well, as many of you know by now, this occurred this past Friday, as Tazz from the WWF returned to his old stomping grounds, ECW to capture the ECW world title from Mike Awesome who recently signed a contract with WCW and who appeared on WCW Nitro three days earlier…Who’d a thunk it!!!

Time will tell just how the WWF and ECW will take advantage of this situation.  So a WWF midcarder beat a man who literally destroyed all his competition in ECW.  Personally this seems to support the idea of ECW being a second rate promotion in comparison to the Big Two, or this may lead to a rejuvenation of the currently stagnating ECW.  Paul Heyman can’t afford to drop the ball on this one.

The Week in Review:

WWF:

---The battle between CBS/Viacom vs. USA Network vying for the rights of WWF programming is running at full throttle.  USA has vowed to match CBS’s offer and has reinforced its decision by tossing a lawsuit at both CBS and WWFE.  The WWF-USA contract had a clause which would allow USA to keep the WWF’s programming for another five years if it could match a third parties offer, which is what USA just did.  More to come in the next several weeks, or even days…

--Jim Ross reports that the under taker will be back in June.  Rumors, however, have been tossed around that he will be at Raw is War this Monday night or at the SmackDown tapings on Tuesday…But, his return has been rumored prior to Wrestlemania.

--The WWF will run a special Best of SmackDown show on Friday April 28.  All indications from the promos for the show seem to indicate it will be worth watching…

WCW:

--Things look much brighter on the WCW side of he fence.  With a solid performance on both Nitro and Thunder, WCW seems to be on the verge of gaining at least some leverage in its ratings war with the WWF.

--Spring Stampede, WCW’s next PPV will have Jeff Jarrett facing Diamond Dallas Page for the vacant WCW title.   Other titles, with the exception of the TV title and the defunct Women’s Title and Women’s Cruiserweight title (remember that one), will also be on the line at Spring Stampede.  Jimmy Hart vs. Shock Jock Mancow Muller ay be a dark math on the card…

--Shane Douglas and Buff Bagwell have both signed a two-year contract/extension with WCW.

Other:

--A new ECW Heavyweight Champion was crowned this past Thursday night as Tazz defeated Mike Awesome.

--During their South African Tour, The Rock ‘n Roll Express defeated Steven Dunn and Bobby Fulton (subbing for injured Reno Riggins) to become an unprecedented 8 times NWA World Tag Team champions.

--XPW will resent a show from the LA Sports Arena headlined by Champion Chris Candido vs. Shane Douglas for the XPW title.  Both men are under contract with WCW, so it will be interesting to see who will exit the Arena as champion.

--If this situation isn’t bad enough, ECW has barred Sabu to appear on the show, due to his still-valid ECW contract.
