Small, round, cat-like and well cushioned. Pads black, nails preferably dark. Moderate length, root set high, curled over back. Light, nimble, active, energetic and very smooth Outer coat straight and stand off. Profuse, short, dense undercoat, soft in texture. Shorer on face, ears, front of fore and hind legs and below hocks. Remainder of body covered with long coat. Mane on neck and shoulders reaching down to brisket. Tail profusely covered with long hair. Pure white The height should be around 30-36 cm at shoulders. Bitches slightly smaller. |

| A bit about the origin of the jap. spitz: Spitz dogs have been imported in Japan centuries ago, and most of them are thought to be of Alaskan origin. The jap. spitz in particular, is said to hail from the Samoyed, by mating smaller samples of that race. That explains the great similarity between the two races. It is also said that the jap. spitz is connected to the Canadian wolfdog, although this theory is less likely. |
