Imperial Japanese Navy

The Imperial Japanese Navy used destroyers extensively.  Destroyers were used for shore bombardment to making supply runs (Tokyo Express)The Destroyers were armed fairly well, but many still lacked the capability to effectively defend against an air attack, many turrets turned too slowly to track fast  aircraft.  The Japanese destroyers however, used the torpedo very effectively.  But a lack in sonar and radar technology hempened the success of the destroyer fleet greatly.  Using torpedoes, and highly trained night tactics, they were a feared force during the war.
