Learn Japanese: Lesson 2

 Basic Sentences

Using the information from lesson one I have put together a number of sentences so you can get the jist of it.

I will give the sentence in Japanese and then the definition.  In parentheses is the literal translation.

 

1. Kore wa hon desu. This is a book (This book is)

 

2. Kore wa akai hon desu. This is a red book (This red book is)

 

3. Sore wa kuroi hon desu ka? Is that a black book? (That black book is?)

 

4. Iie, ki-iro hon desu.  No, it’s a yellow book. (No, yellow book is)

 

5. Kore wa nan desu ka?  What is this? (This what is?)

 

6. Isu desu.  It’s a chair. (chair is)

 

7. Are wa nan desu ka? What is that over there? (that over there what is?)

 

8. Tsukue desu.  It’s a desk. (Desk is)

 

9. Sou ne?  Really?

 

10. Hai, sou desu. Yes, it is. 

 

11. Sugoi! Awesome!
