Forms

Forms, or patterns, (poomse) are the combinations of a series of kicks, blocks and punches which simulate attack and defensive movements against imaginary opponents. The practice of forms is the most important element of Taekwondo training and technique. This is a necessary requirement for the advancement to all levels, from beginners to master. In practicing forms the emphasis should be on proper execution of technique - kicks, punches, stances - as well as the development and refinement of coordination, balance, breathing and control.

Here are some forms broken down into distinct parts. However, such subtleties as timing, rhythm and power cannot obviously be gained from this medium alone as these can only be learned through continued practice and under the guidance of a qualified instructor.
