Freud had done some very interesting work about religion and sexuality. In a paper titled, "Christianity: The Leading Cause of Homosexuality", he claimed that Christian males made up the highest percentage of homosexual males.
In this paper, Freud claimed that religions caused mental barriers to be put up in the brain. These mental barriers succeded in holding back human's true feelings of sex, in particual homosexuality. The barriers Freud said, "stopped the natural progretion of human sexuality", but only for so long. These barriers would eventually break, leading to extreme experimentation and open homosexuality. In particular, rural white males were at a substantially higher "risk". Freud said that these males need not attend church on a regular basis, but rather have a strong feeling that God exists and that there was a possibility of humans going to hell. It was this belief system, Freud said, that led to the eventual breaking of the barriers.
