MY PROJECT AND PLANS
| Plans and visions
1.10.2000
It has happened a lot since last time I updated this page and my plans has gone too far. Now I have bought a new Datsun that will probably become the meanest Datsun 100A ever made for street use. It will probably take some time before itīs out on the street but when itīs ready youīll better watch out. Now I have got license for 1.5litre engine with turbo so it will be really mean when itīs ready. With good luck I will take over 200hp out of my engine, but not without problems! I will get problems with the transmission and the clutch but problems are meant to be solved. My engine today gives about 110hp and itīs fully prepared for a turbo. I have made some calculations how much horsepower I can get and if the compression is 7.0:1 I can use 0.8 bar boost, that would give aproximatily 80% more power. The result is 199hp without an intercooler. If I use an intercooler I can change the boost to 1,0 bar and that would give about 90% more power, then it should give 209 hp and thatīs not bad. What do you think about 3,11 kg per horsepower ?? And remember, this is not a racecar itīs an ordinary modified car for street use..... |
Here are some pictures, specifications and facts.
Pictures taken before turbo was mounted.
| Phase I 1.7.2001
I have always wanted to install a Turbo on a Datsun 100A and now I have done it..... I have spoken a lot with my friends about my crazy plans with my Datsun but now I think that I have proved that it is not impossible to get over 200hp of my Datsun and to get a real killer!! I have driven my racer with 1,0bar boost without any big problems...... the original clutch wasnīt strong enough so this winter I will install a real racing clutch. |
| A visit on the dyno
1.10.2001
To get my racer registrated I had to get a certificate that my engine didnīt give any more power than 95hp. I drove it on the dyno only to get my certificate because I didnīt want to blow my engine before the car was registrated. The engine gave 95hp at 5000rpm with 0,2bar boost. I had to open the wastegate 20mm to get the boost that low. With an intercooler and 1bar boost the engine would give aproximatly 200hp without any problems. |
Here are some pictures taken after my car had passed the inspection.

This is a picture of my visions.....
| Plans for summer
2002
Now the summer is over and I am happy with what I have established. I drove several hundred km without much problems so next summer will be great. Even though the clutch was to weak and the exhaust header leaked a bit my Datsun was really quick with only 0.4bar boost.... between 1000 and 3000rpm it was really nice but when the revs went past 3000rpm itīs behavior was explosive !! I have made a new racing clutch that will be installed during the winter and I will also install a completely new ignition system that will burn much bigger fuelloads, that will give more power and lower temperatures in the cylinder head. |
| Updates and problems
20.5.2002 My new electronical ignitionsystem was made at Johnīs speedshop, John is a true expert in this field and has helped me a lot since I began to build my first Datsun. He will also finetune my engine. The ignitionsystem is not installed yet but it will be soon!! My biggest problem with my turboengine has been leakage on the exhaustheader, you can see that on the picture of the carburators. It has been hard to make a perfect exhaustheader because lack of space. I have mounted heatwrap on the exhaustheader, otherwise gasoline would start to condensate in the carburators. All the parts needed for my racingclutch are made but I havenīt put it together yet. With 900kg pressure on the plate it will be good enough for 250hp and over 300Nm torque. |
| Wheels
There has been a big problem to find suitable wheels for my racer. After a lot of searching I finally found suitable 15" AEZ Bimo 4*108mm ET35 in the front and ET15 in the rear. The problem was to change from 4*114,3 to 4*108 so it took over a year before I could use my wheels. I bought DOT-marked Bridgestone potenza slicks because I knew that I would need more grip than I would get with normal roadtyres. With my new slicks my car has stopped to spin when I accelerate so now I am in need for more horsepower....... |
| Phase II 15.7.2002
The outside of my car is almost ready except for some small details. The engine and all technichs have worked well except for a few leaks on the exhaustheader and some overheating problems. My new wheels are mounted and I think that they are great, my Bridgestone slicks are awesome and I think they suits the car well. |
| My first race
Finally I got my car ready for race. I went to a streetrace competition to see what times my car could do. I drove without an intercooler and 0.5bar boost so I decided to compete in the bracketclass to get as many runs as possible. I had big problems with the clutch so the times was a disaster, my best run was 15.8 but iīll be back next year.... |
| After the race
After the race I took the engine apart to see if everything inside had survived the competition. Every part looked like new so it seems like everything is okay. During the winter I will do a new portjob on the cylinderhead to get more fuel into my engine, I will also install an intercooler so I can start using my electronical boost controller. |
Here are the specifications of my car as it is today.
