Beauford's race name was Big City Bound.
Beauford was returned to RMGA at age 9 after being in a home for several
years. We will never understand why. He had just arrived at the kennel,
when I met him. I had just lost Razor, and this big, beautiful black boy
latched onto me with those big brown eyes of his, and I was smitten! I
went into his stall, sat with him, and he climbed right into my lap. It
was all over. I got a lead from the car and took him home.
I still think Razor had some influence on my adoption of Beauford. Shy had
been so depressed, but she immediately perked up when he walked in the
house. I soon found them lying nose to nose, instantly best friends.
Beauford took up residence on the futon behind my computer chair, just like Razor. He was the most gentle soul, always with a half grin on his silly face. Immediately after he came to live with me, he had to have his teeth cleaned. It was very difficult for him, he lost 13 teeth. He was so miserable for a few days, he could barely eat. I was worried he would have a difficult time eating after his mouth healed, but I worried for no reason. He was quite a "chow hound" and was always first to the food bowls.
In February 2000, Beauford suddenly developed extreme pain in his back. He
was screaming in pain, and I was absolutely helpless. X-rays found a tumor
on his spine, and the prognosis was not good. There was no treatment the
vet could offer. I had to let him go the Rainbow Bridge.
I miss him and his goofy smile.
