In most legends and myths, Oberon and Titania are the king and queen of the fairies. In some, Oberon is considered the "consort" of Titania and called Prince Oberon. Oberon governs over a haunted wood where he practices magic. He also able to control the weather.

First apperaing in Huon de Bordeaux in the early 1400's, Oberon took the role of a helpful fairy dwarf who aids in the adventures of Huor, the noble son of Seguin.

His name is thought to have derived from the Teutonic name, Alberich or Elberick, who is commonly the dwarf king in German folk tales. When the French took up the character, the name transformed into Auberon and eventually became Oberon.

Cronos and Rhea, the father and mother of Zeus, were the children of Uranus and were also known as the race of the Titans. One of Uranus' moons is named after Oberon.
