Helena, or Helen, is either from Greek helene, which means "torch" or "corposant", or Greek selene, which means "moon". Helen, in Greek mythology, was the daughter of Zeus and Leda. Helen was known to be the most beautiful woman, was the cause of the Trojan War when she was kidnapped by Paris.

The character Helena in The Midsummer Night's Dream is the one who pines after Demetrius. But, after the workings of Puck, she the recieves the unwanted attentions of both Demetrius and Lysander. In a way, she is like the Helen of Troy, who disrupted many kingdoms and caused a war that launched more than a thousand ships. But instead, Helena disrupted the happenings between Hermia, Lysander, and Demetrius.
