Do's and Dont's for Parents
* Do encourage children.  Praise them for the things they do well.  If they feel good about themselves, they will do their best.

* Don't be too anxious about your child's test scores.  Too much emphasis on scores can upset a child.

* Don't judge a child on the basis of a single test score.  One test is simply one test.  They are not perfect measures of what a child can do.  Many things can influence a test score, like the way he is feeling, the classroom setting, the teacher's attitude...

* Meet with the teacher as often as possible to discuss your child's progress.  Ask for home activities to improve your child's understanding of school work.  Parents and teachers should work together to benefit students.

* Make sure your child attends school regularly.  Tests reflect a child's overall achievement.  The more effort and energy a child puts into learning, the more likely he/she wil do well on tests.

* Provide a quiet, comfortable place for studying at home.

* Make sure your child is well rested on school days and especially the day of a test.  Children who are tired are less able to pay attention in class or to handle the demands of a test.

* Give your child a well-rounded diet and exercise.  A healthy body leads to a healthy, active mind.

* Provide books and magazines for your child to read at home.  This provides new material and new words that might appear on a test.

* Do give your child practice in followiing directions, like recipes.
