What is Josh's Most Emmy-worthy Scene? |
|
| This *is* an opinion column and the opinions
expressed on this page do not necessarily reflect those of joshduhamel.com.
Also, due to complications with my email service, my email address has changed to [email protected]. Please make a note of it since I love hearing from all of you! For those of you that attended the Dan Marino Celebrity
Golf Tournament or the Improv Comedy Club Appearance to meet Josh this past weekend, hope
you had TONS of fun!! Make sure to check back in here at jd.com & let us know how it
went! The 28th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards Show will air on
May 18th from New York Citys Radio City Music Hall. Theres been a lot of buzz
lately surrounding the upcoming nominations, which will be announced on March 15th on
NBCs "The Today Show". The big question around here is: "Will Josh be
nominated?" Well, only time will tell but WE certainly believe he is worthy of such
an honor for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. We all feel JD has more than
earned a place among the tops in the industry. However, the Emmy Awards are not voted on
by the fans, but by members of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences
(NATAS). If youd like to learn more about how the voting process works, check out
the NATAS page at: http://www.emmys.tv/whatwedo/procedures.htm.
A few weeks ago, I asked you to email me with what "Leo du Pres" scenes you thought were most Emmy-worthy. There have been many of them!! Some of my favorites were the early ones (vintage Leo!) in which he & brother David sparred on an almost day to day basis. A lot of you picked the scene where Leo finds out Vanessa let him take the rap for Paolos murder (and some of the scenes that followed) for most Emmy-worthy. However, the majority of responses I got were for the scenes from this past December, when Leo found out Greenlee pushed Laura overboard on the night of the now infamous IncredibleDreams.com party. We could insert transcript bits here from some of those
episodes, but just *reading* them wouldnt come close to doing them justice. You have
to SEE the look on Joshs face & hear the emotion in his voice to really get a
feel for his talent. Soap Opera Digest has named him "Performer of the Week"
three times to date (one of those alongside co-star Rebecca Budig, Greenlee). SOD said of
his jail scenes with Greenlee: By the time Leo faced off with a jailed Greenlee, that
tense body language had yielded to fluidity. He paced & gestured with his hands. Not
in a showy way but just enough. Duhamel had given himself over to the moment. And so, a
heated exchange between lovers was so genuine that we felt more like voyeurs than viewers. Joshs most Emmy-worthy scene? Lets look at
what YOU had to say: |
| Shea: "I love this guy! I have to admit that its his comic timing I find the most brilliant. I would love to know who writes his lines, because they are delivered so effortlessly. I would swear they are adlibs. He is absolutely, hands down, the main reason I watch AMC. Josh, you rock my soap world!" | Suzy: "Definitely the scenes with Greenlee in the jail-they were so powerful & heartbreaking all at once. I agree [with Shea] - Leo is one of the only reasons to watch half the time & Josh REALLY deserves a nomination." |
| Fins: "Josh has done so much awesome work from making me cry to making me cry laughing that I cant even remember! One of the most recent scenes of him screaming at Greenlee while she was in jail got to me. I love how Josh is not afraid to freak (the way people do in the real world) unlike most soap actors who feel compelled to do a lot of crying or low growling when they get angry. Josh just loses it, just like any guy would. Its so real. I would have to say on a continual basis, Leo is interesting. Even when he is supporting another characters scene, he steals the limelight with his quick wit and attitude. It is that sort of ability to do that continuously that should win him an Emmy. Two scenes submitted to the Emmys for perusal isnt enough for Josh; they should look at the big picture." [Editors note: Agreed!] |
| Selena: "Josh is such a natural. I love when Leo freaks & loses it, very guy-like & completely convincing. I also love his wit & attitude. You can just see Josh is comfortable in front of the camera with this character. My fave Leo scene was when he went to Bianca to find out the truth about Greens. He was losing it (angry) but was also so upset he was starting to cry, too. He WANTED to know the truth but at the same time, he really didnt. It was very convincing ... that feeling when youre so angry you feel like youre about to bawl, but youre trying not to. And then when he kept screaming at Bianca to tell him the truth ... a GREAT scene! I also like the ones at the jail when he told Greens he knew the truth. But by then he seemed angrier. I thought the one where he actually LEARNED the truth was more powerful but they were both Emmy-deserving scenes, in my opinion." |
| Christina: "I think that when Greenlee was in jail for the attempted murder of Laura English, & he was almost in tears asking her why she didnt tell him the truth about what she did ... I was crying like a baby when I saw that scene. It was like you could actually see his heart breaking. And not to mention the yelling and freaking out was extremely well done!" |
| Stef: "I loved the pool boy scenes! But the better one of (my favorite) two was when Leo found out that David was right about Vanessa & her part in Paolos death." | Ash: "I loved all the scenes after he found out David was right about Vanessa. There was one by the boathouse, in particular, right before Greenlee said she wouldnt leave him alone with Vanessa. Hes just terrific in everything!" |
| Jules: "My favorite Leo scene is when he fell asleep w/ Greenlee on Ericas bed. It was sweet & made me cry! I loved when he kissed her elbow & put a blanket on her. Dont know if its Emmy-worthy, but its my favorite Leo scene!" | Marianna: "As everyone knows, I think ALL of Joshs scenes are "Emmy-worthy", but if I had to pick one (well, two) theyd have to be Leo visiting Greenlee in jail & Leo blasting Roger Smythe in the apartment. As always, Josh portrayed Leo with outstanding ease & he has proven over & over again that he should definitely win an Emmy for best supporting actor! |
| SEAHAAS: "By far, the scene when Leo told off Roger Smythe were Joshs greatest dramatic acting scenes to date! I was enthralled & impressed with his dynamic performance. Perfect!" | Bonnie B: "I would have to go with the scene when Greenlee was behind bars after being arrested for shoving Laura off the yacht. The raw emotion in his voice & the pain on his face when confronting her about blackmailing Bianca just about broke my heart. Haha, thinking about it brought tears to my eyes. Jeez, Im such a sap!" |
| Janet (DixieCup): "Some of my favorite scenes are actually the ones where he is serious with Binx. The first scene in the boathouse where she comes out to him, & he then questions her if she is sure since she is only 16. She said, "Did you know you liked girls when you were 16?" That scene, to me, was so accurately portrayed, the writing was superb, and it was acted superbly by both Josh & Eden. I also thought some of his scenes that were really well done were when he was coming to the realization that Vanessa had set him up. He played the hurt son so well." |
| Jadyland: "Gosh, there are too many scenes that I liked. One was that dinner from hell scene [with David, Vanessa, & the Greenlees]. Another was the moment Leo found out that Vannessa killed Paolo, & then there is the one where Leo got drunk because he was being blackmailed by Paolo. I also loved his serious talk scenes with Bianca. I hope that they show two totally different scenes of Leo (i.e., serious talk with Binks & Leo drunk) for the Emmys." |
| Foose: "It has been a totally enjoyable Leo year - but then when you sit down to pick one scene ... I'm not sure I can do it!! I can't remember the exact thing, but I suppose it would have to have something to do with when David was telling him what a horrible mother Vanessa is/was & he was refusing to believe it and struggling with it, lashing out at David." |
| RaisinKane: "My most favorite scene is the recent one just this week where Leo cries when he confesses to his mother Vanessa that he truly loves Greenlee. This was such a shocker, to be able to see Leo cry real tears ~ Emmy material for sure!!! And I also have to say that the scenes with Bianca in the boathouse were done with such sincerity & compassion, I was speechless. I also felt in someways while watching this scene that it just "might" reach some people out there that are having a similar situation & having a hard time dealing with the very same thing. Bravo to Josh, Eden & AMC for bringing this story to light with such dignity!" |
| All wonderful scenes! Its so hard to choose just
two out of all of them. Lets just hope the NATAS sees what we do! :-) And, hey, if
Josh gets nominated, we should throw a big fat online Emmy party to celebrate! Whadda
