Greetings to all of you! It's been a long time .... the last JOJ article was the, ahem, CONGRATS JOSH piece I posted here back when our fave guy Josh won the DAYTIME EMMY for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.  I'm sure you guys didn't mind that one staying up over the summer ... hehe!   Were you all dancing on the ceiling like I was?? I was on the phone with several friends at different times that evening while watching the show and, while we were somewhat disappointed that AMC didn't receive any more awards, we certainly were NOT disappointed when the first award went to:
HE WON!!!!
JOSH DUHAMEL!!!

Oh, and that's pronounced "Du-MEL" not "Du-HAM-el", Melody ;-)  Ok, on to more serious matters.

How many of you have been enjoying the direction Leo has been going lately?  I'm not sure about this just yet .... when you see those ads on SoapNet and ABC for the show that say "Do you REALLY know Leo?"   Well, it makes one wonder.   And ok, how many times do we have to hear that "Escape" song???  Anyway, I'm not sure what they are doing with Leo.  We STILL don't know who his father is.  Sigh!  I don't think we will ever find out.

On that note, I segue to the latest rumors swirling around the departures of some key characters from the Pine Valley landscape.  Marj Dusay (Vanessa - Leo's deranged mom) has been let out of her contract.  :-(   What is up with THAT?  I don't think anyone could have pulled off that Proteus storyline better than she did.  Certainly next year she should be considered an Emmy contender.  It will be a travesty if she is not.   The three together - Marj, Josh, and Vincent Irizarry (David-Leo's brother) are a one of a kind team you don't see often in the soap world.  They play well off of each other to the point they don't even look like they are acting.   The big rumor of the moment in the soap universe is Josh's status.  Is he staying or going? Who knows?  If it has been officially reported in any of the soap mags that he's leaving, I haven't seen it.  We will have to see.  But one has to wonder, if his character is going to be shown to be "evil" and has been masquerading this entire time as a nice guy, then well, perhaps Leo and Vanessa will ride off into the sunset, smiling wickedly .... we will have to stay tuned to find out!

If that rumor is true, it will be yet another big loss for AMC, IMO.   But even though we may be saddened should Josh be leaving the show, we can also be excited about the opportunities out there that he could have the time to explore.  There is so much more to Josh the actor than just Leo du Pres (even though we looooove Leo!).   No matter what field we choose to work in, we all enjoy "spreading our wings" and growing and learning.   Josh would be no exception, should this be the path he chooses.  And if he stays, BRAVO!!!    That would mean at least a few more months (if not more) of him in the role of the ever evolving Leo du Pres.   But either way, my support won't waiver - I'm sure you guys feel the same :-)

On a more personal note, I would be remiss if I didn't talk a little bit about the anniversary of 9-11.  By the time this article is posted, 9-11-02 will be upon us.   For those of you who lost family members & friends, may this day be a time of healing and continuing to move forward.   You have my deepest condolences.   The death of a family member or friend is hard to take no matter how it happens, but having to be reminded of it everyday with the images you see on TV must make it incredibly difficult to try to move on with your lives.  For a while after 9-11, I simply did not watch the national news (MSNBC and the like).  I couldn't deal with it.   I was in NYC when the attacks happened - though safe in Times Square.   Like most people, I was changed forever.  Read about my experiences before, during, and after 9-11-01 in NYC by
clicking here.   Tomorrow the television stations and news media outlets will be bombarding us with images and discussions about what happened last year.   I'm still not sure I will watch.  At 8:46 a.m. EST, the time of the first strike last year, tears will be shed across America.   But not just tears of sadness but tears shed for love for this country and its determined efforts to continue on, despite the tragic events of last September.  3,000+  lives were lost that day, but the spirit of America carries on and no matter what happens, that spirit will always remain alive in all of us.

Until next time,
Janny
