Dry Ingredients
1 1/2 cup self raising flour 1 1/2 cup white sugar 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate soda 1/2 cup cocoa
Wet Ingredients 4 oz shortening (margarine) few drops vanilla 3/4 cup water 2 eggs
METHOD
Place Dry Ingredients into mixing bowl. Add very soft shortening, vanilla and half of water.
Beat until well mixed, add remainder of water and eggs. Beat for 1 minute longer. Place into a greased 7 inch square tin or 2 sandwich tins.
Bake for 30 minutes in a moderate oven. Test with a skewer to check if cooked, or if the cake leaves the sides of the tin, it is cooked)
Ice with chocolate icing if desired.
