Messerschmitt Me 163B Komet
My Me 163 was made with the help of a Revell kit, scale 1:48, with a Czech Master's detail set added. That detail set had a lot of bits for the cockpit, but I have to say the Revell Cockpit was not bad either. The detail set also provided flaps and aelerons, a rudder, a C-stoff fuell tank, and hatches and machineguns for the weapons bay. The scary part of using a detail set is the opening up of a perfectly good kit. And a lot of the added details are lost somwhere inside the palin. One needs at least a torch to see the beautiful 3 millimeter long rudder pedals inside...
The Revell kit went together very well, and the detail set was provided no real problems as well, appart from size (it was my first detail set, and I have to admitt the minusule size was a bit of a shock to me).
One of the great atractions in modelbuilding is to get to know your subject. For the Me 163 I went to Munich, in Germany, to see several planes in the German Museum. And here is the Me 163...
Beside Musea one now has the Internet to search. In the old days I would be lucky to find just one or two pics in the library, now i have acces to comple history and lots of pictures. I have included a couple of pics I found, but feel free to try yourself: Just Messerschmitt Me 163 in Google will keep you busy for days...
