| Popcorn words are what we call high frequency words. We call them popcorn words because they keep "popping up" in our reading and writing. Kindergarten students do not usually learn to read and write words by memorizing them. They need to have meaningful encounters with the words in order to build connections to other words they already know. Through elements in the classroom like Morning Message, Predictable Charts, Word Walls, Leveled Readers, Games, and Songs these connections are made. |
