Pictured above are a few of our students who attended our summer program funded by a WV READS grant. After reading the story Chicka Chicka Boom we went on a Safari-read wearing our special hats. Our room and hallway was transformed into a jungle using carpet rolls for palm trees and animals everywhere! We want to thank two special moms, Allison and Teresa, for creating our hallway jungle. |
Bulletin Board Directions 1, Background - I covered the board using a paper table cloth covered with palm trees from K-Mart. 2. Faces - I took a close of picture of my student's faces and attached them to tropical shirts from Oriental Trading Company that were party invitations. After I used white out to cover the invitation details, we used them for an interactive writing lesson. To learn more about our new kindergarten friends we completed these sentences... I like________. I love______.
Our hallway The coconuts under the tree were made by stuffing paper bags with newpapers, then crunching them into a coconut shape.

Swinging Elephant For our stuffed elepant we made a swing out of packaging material and yarn and hung it from our ceiling. Bamboo, silk vines and flowers were used to decorate the walls to create a jungle effect.
We added a grass skirt and a straw hat to our class teddy bear.

These animals came from Walmart where I found them dressed in their finest Chicka Chicka Boom clothes. We will use them for Reading Buddies and take home backback journal friends.
